The 2011 Philadelphia Folk Festival
The Philadelphia Folk Festival has always been something near & dear to us here at MainPointMusic.com.
Heck, the whole reason the Main Point came into existence in Bryn Mawr was to become a place where people could go to hear live music while they waited for the folk festival to come around in August of each year! This year mark’s the 50th time folks have gathered at the Old Pool Farm in Schwenksville, PA for a weekend of unforgettable music, arts, crafts, and community.
This year’s preliminary line-up has been released & we wanted to share it with all of you – You’ll notice several former Main Point performers on the list which makes this edition of the Philadelphia Folk Festival a not-to-be-missed event for fans of the Main Point and fans of live music alike!
Our Main Point alumni includes Arlo Guthrie (who appeared at the Main Point on 6 different occasions) – David Bromberg (who played in Bryn Mawr on more than 15 different occasions) – Tom Paxton (a stalwart of the Main Point with 23 performances over the years) and Tom Rush (another Main Point veteran who played the club on 18 separate billings). Also appearing will be The John Hartford String Band who has continued to carry the folk/bluegrass torch for John since his passing in 2001 (he played the club 10 times during his lifetime).
While it’ll be great to see some of those performers this year, the coolest thing about the folk festival these days is the newer artists who come out to play – All with the same folksy vibe & outstanding musicianship as the more-seasoned performers. Some of this year’s newer acts include Justin Townes Earle – Caitlin Rose – Dan Bern – Dala and The Wood Brothers. Also returning to Schwenksville this year will be The Kennedys – The Battlefield Band – Jorma Kaukonen as well as Kim & Reggie Harris.
For a complete list of performers as well as ticket information about everything else related to the Philadelphia Folk Festival, visit the website at <http://www.folkfest.org> or call the Philadelphia Folk Festival office at 800-556-FOLK.
Hope you can make plans to attend this year & if you do, we hope to see you there!
