Doc Watson – The Dan DeLuca Interview

Doc Watson – The Dan DeLuca Interview

Dan DeLuca, the writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer as well as his own music blog In the Mix, just ran a great interview with the legendary Doc Watson!

Doc was in town recently to perform at a fundraiser for the Philadelphia Folksong Society and covered a wide range of topics  and said some very nice things about the time he spent in the Philadelphia area – specifically touching on the times he spent at the Main Point! As many of you know, Doc Watson was a regular performer at the Main Point, appearing on over 25 separate occaisions between 1965 & 1979.

 Here’s part of Dan’s Q&A with Doc:

Q: What do you remember about playing Philadelphia-area folk clubs like the Second Fret in Philadelphia and the Main Point in Bryn Mawr?

A: The Main Point was always a great place to play, they had good audiences there. And at the Second Fret, my friend [the late blues guitarist] Jerry Ricks used to prepare the food there, and then he would come out and pick with me sometimes.

  1. Spoke to Doc at the Keswick prior to the show. He recalled the Main Point as a great place to try out new material and he specifically remembered playing an obscure Jimmy Rodgers song that he had never played before. Great to talk with Doc again!!
